Imagery and Meditation

Imagery is a natural thought process using one or more of the five senses. It is the bridge between the conscious and subconscious, helping to connect the body, mind and spirit. Various forms of imagery (such as guided imagery and integrative imagery) as well as meditation, prayer and relaxation breathing can assist you in relaxation. Images form, express and evoke emotions that directly affect physiological responses. A person can be taught to suspend negative images to allow for new images that will enhance health and well-being.
The essence of the mind-body connection is:
  • Breath focus
  • Mental focus
  • Passive attitude toward distracting thoughts
  • Muscular relaxation.
Meditation is both an ancient spiritual practice and a contemporary mind-body technique for relaxing the body and calming the mind. It elicits a profound form of deep relaxation as a person attempts to focus on one thing at a time. This creates an internal state of relaxed awareness. Your body and mind begin to quiet down.
