Pharmacology
Pharmacology is the science that explores and identifies the action of drugs on the body. The term drug includes prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, natural remedies, vitamins minerals, and nutrients taken into our body by mouth, inhalation and through our skin. We are fortunate to have Dr. Joe Woelfel assist each patient with their personal therapy by searching multiple high level and reliable data bases that permit the following:
- permitting an understanding of the medication properties of a particular drug, made by a particular manufacturer, such as absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion
- the effect of multiple drugs on one's body
- the potential for drug interactions (cross reactions of one drug with another) particularly the interaction between traditional medicines and complementary/ alternative medicines such as herbs and supplements
- possible adverse drug reactions
- ferreting out medication-related problems and their prevention
- the integrational knowledge of body function, age-related body changes, and these pharmacological principles
- elucidating the on and off-label uses of medicines
- identifying the quantity and quality of product content(absorbability and purity)
- understanding whether a trade name of a drug manufactured abroad has the same chemical content as one with a similar name made here in the US
- Alerting us if a particular set of symptoms might be due to one of your drugs
